Some of the legendary and interesting renditions of this timeless classic of Saint Purandara Dasa:

1. Bharat Ratna M. S. Subbulakshmi in Carnatic Raga Madhyamavati. Need no further words:

2. Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi made it his own in Hindustani Raga Bibhas (?) - a combination of Carnatic Ragas Pantuvarali and Revagupti (as explained in a later video by Prince Rama Varma):

3. Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj and her daughter Ranjani Vasuki singing the same song in the other popular version in Carnatic Sree Raga:

4. Prince Rama Varma explaining the lyrics of the song in Malayalam and singing it in Bhimsen Joshi's approach:

5. Disciples of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi and Pandit Anand Bhate take it to another level altogether. Specially the high pitches Anand Bhate reaches is unbelievable:

6. And finally, just indicating the reach of this mesmerizing song, Malaysian Chong Chiu Sen, a disciple of legendary Smt. D. K. Pattammal sings it in the popular Hindustani note and gives it a more Carnatic feel - hence bringing out more of Revagupti - before finishing it off with the traditional Carnatic Madhyamavati with Mangalam - almost perfect Kannada pronunciations too:

7. A new addition. Young Soorya Gayatri with her cute yet mesperising voice and control over the raga:

8. This is such a beautiful rendition from Ms. Aarya Ambekar:

Hey, thanks for compiling song in the multiple languages. Noticed second paragraph ends as "Kumari Bega" rather it should be "Kumari Veda". This difference is noted while I was listening to Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Please check yourself. Anyways thanks once again for getting song & lyrics in one place.

No Madam, it is indeed "kumari bEga", indicating that the devotee is urging of goddess to come over quickly. "kumari veda" does not mean anything in the context.

It's Janakarajana Kumari veda not BEGA please edit it
Prasanna said…
No, Ms. Roopa, as I have shared in the comments before, Kumari "veda" does not mean anything in the context. Kumari "bega" means "come earnestly, daughter of Janaka". So, "Kumari Bega" is the correct lyrics.

@Kailas Bhatkar, oh yes, I had watched her rendition. This definitely belongs here. Added right away. Wonderful voice and diction for a non-Kannada speaker.

Sri Vidyabhushana rendition is one of the best ever. I am surprised it's not mentioned here.
